Gosh, it has been a long time. I started Becki’s Whole Life back in 2011 as a food blog. I blogged for 3 years and just as I was starting to gain traction I stopped. I got tired of talking about food on every.single.post. I love cooking, eating, talking about food – you name it, but I got a bit tired of Becki’s Whole Life only being about food. So I stopped.
Fast forward to 2019 and I have missed blogging so, so much. There has always been something in me that wants to share, write, help, create and all of that has always left a tiny hole in my heart. I have kept the hosting up for my site and I reference my recipes all the time. I still actually get a decent amount of traffic.
In those 5 years since I stopped, my life has changed quite a bit. My girls have gotten older (obviously) – they are beautiful teenagers who are All-Star cheerleaders. We moved to a new house – still in Apex, NC. We have another dog (Harley) and I have changed my eating habits – drastically. I now eat a Ketogenic/Low Carb diet and I LOVE IT. I still cook for the rest of my family that eats carbs, so that makes things interesting, but it has actually been pretty easy. I focus on clean eating – lots of veggies, moderate protien, nutrient dense foods and healthy fats. Along with this new way of eating, I have also tried to get chemicals out of our lives (when I can) which I feel like has made us all healthier (whether my family believes this or not:-) – cue eye rolls.
Eating low carb/Keto has changed my life. I have lost 15 pounds (with 15 more to go.) I feel insanely better. I was suffering from migraines and those have been cut in half. I had neck and shoulder pain that was probably more debilitating than I realized at the time. Its gone now. I have more energy and my mood has improved considerably. My skin is clearer, too. All around, I just feel so much better and I am way more in tune with my body and its needs. Not to mention, it has been the easiest way of eating that I have ever tried. So much good food. Do I miss carbs? Sometimes, but in all honesty the benefits make it so worth it – and I was a total sugar/carb junkie!!
Becki’s Whole Life 2.0 will focus on my new way of eating, but I will also share my journey of just being an imperfect mom trying to juggle life and doing her best to get things together. I like to equate my life to a leaky bucket. I always feel like I get one aspect together, but something else starts to fall apart. For instance, right now I am feeling great about my diet, but my beauty routine could use some serious help. Or I get the girls cheer and school schedules running smoothly and then I forget to take them to their dentist appointments (oops!)
In this version of the blog I will share that journey. Just me,trying to get all the things together. I will share how I stay organized at home (using some really awesome principles I have learned at work in my tech job.) I will share recipes (of course), but this time with a focus on cooking for a family that eats both low carb/keto and higher carb meals. I’ll also share time management techniques, technology for moms, and ideas for living a more natural life. Plus a whole lot more!
While the heavy content will be on my blog I will also create videos on my YouTube Channel and I will be on Instagram – because I LOVE Insta.
So, if you are new, welcome. If you followed me before, I hope you will keep following along on this new and improved (or improving) journey.
XOXOXO – Becki
